Getting More People on Bikes in Santa Cruz County

Join us in spreading the joy of cycling throughout our community on Bike to Work Day this Thursday, May 9!

Bike to Work Day is one of many incentives that help to build a tight-knit and diverse bicycle community throughout Santa Cruz County. Ecology Action debuted the event in 1987, and it has since expanded to reach an impressive 14,000 participants.

The objective of Bike to Work Day is to increase the number of people who bike for transportation, and organizers produce fun activities to meet that goal. Ecology Action has found that the health and safety of our community continues to improve as more people ditch their cars in favor of bikes.

Free Breakfast & Coffee

On Thursday, May 9 Ecology Action will be providing FREE food and coffee from 6:30-9:30am at twelve different Bike to Work Day “breakfast sites” throughout the county. Tasty breakfast treats make excellent incentives to get people smiling on two wheels as they roll out to work and school. Additionally, Bike to Work sites offer like-minded folks a place to connect.

The cherry on top? Free basic bicycle maintenance is offered at select breakfast sites! Epicenter is proud to be involved in this initiative year after year. This Thursday morning, look for our Mission Street lead mechanic Daniel at the main entrance to UCSC and our Aptos store manager Kenny at the brand new Aptos Village New Leaf store.

Commuting by Bike

There are numerous reasons to commute or otherwise get around town by bicycle. If you haven’t already given it a try, we invite you to do so! It’s a great way to avoid traffic and parking hassles, reduce your carbon footprint, boost your health, and encourage others to follow suit.

If commuting by traditional bicycle seems daunting, consider an electric bike. E-bikes eliminate a number of barriers. You can get to places faster, go farther, and show up to your destination sweat-free. If you have health issues keeping you from riding a traditional bike, an e-bike is your easy button. At Epicenter, we carry a wide range of e-bikes to fit any need. Whether you want to cruise across town or charge to work, we’ve got you covered.

We don’t stop at helping you find the right bike, either. Whether you want to ditch your car now and then or wash your hands of it completely, we’re here to help. Our crew members are experts on the bike commuting lifestyle — stop by any time and we’ll be happy to guide you.

Spreading the Joy

Smiles are contagious! And we know cycling is the best way to spread those smiles. When you start biking to work, you’ll find that your co-workers become interested in the idea of a two-wheel commute. When they, too, realize the logistics of switching to a bicycling commute can be easily integrated into even the most well-established routines, the swap is a no brainer.

Imagine the ripple effect! Join Ecology Action and the crew here at Epicenter Cycling in our mutual quest to get more people on bikes for the joy of cycling and a healthier community.
