The Epicenter Cycling Crew

Meet our AWESOME Crew members. All of the people mentioned below work at Epicenter Cycling to make sure that you have WONDERFUL cycling experiences. It's important to know who you're working with, so we've done our best to show you a glimpse of the BEAUTIFUL personalities that compose the Epicenter Cycling Crew.

Fearless Leaders

Shawn - Co-owner

If you were wondering HOW ? and WHY? Epicenter is so awesome, I'll tell you. It's because Shawn is all about bikes.

Bikes all day, bikes in his dreams, bikes, bikes, bikes.

He is so enthusiastic and excited about the benefits of cycling that it rubs off on EVERY person he meets. The only way Shawn could possibly be happier with bikes is if they tasted like peanut butter. Shawn loves peanut butter.

Kazia - Co-owner

An amazing sister, auntie, and friend. Kazia co-owns Epicenter with her fiance Shawn. After work she enjoys play time with Shawn, and they often wrestle behind the counter when no one is looking. She is proud of her business and is dedicated to maintaining a beautiful, warm, welcoming bike shop.

Vanessa - Aptos Store Manager

Moved here with her wifey, Melinda and pudge-face-love-ball baby girl, Maya, from Arizona and became the majestic and fearless leader of the Aptos crew.

Vanessa is the queen bae of the bike world, she has 15 years experience in the bike industry. Vanessa rides her fat bike to work almost everyday.

Fun fact about Vanessa from her wife, Melinda: “I like pets. Fact.”

Aptos Crew

Matt -Assistant to the Manager Matt LOVES cycling. Despite this redeeming quality it's hard to take him seriously because of his Justin Timberlake tattoo, and the fact that he needs every other weekend off for Twilight Series cosplay. Much to his chagrin, his repeated requests to be called "Black Rose Immortal" have gone unheeded by the rest of the crew.

Silver - Service Manager

Silver does not like having his picture taken.

He does like fixing bikes, making music, and electrical work. He is a pretty cool guy, and a great father to the beautiful Kita.

Sergio: Don't chase your dreams, catch them.

John:

One of the most popular and successful American orchestral composers of the modern age, John Williams is the winner of five Academy Awards, 17 Grammys, three Golden Globes, two Emmys and five BAFTA Awards from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.

Just kidding, but really, he's nice.

Cody: Our e-biking mechanic Cody is packed full of technical information - if you’re looking for a breakdown of your bikes current state of health, he will bore you with all the technical details. Singing and wrench slinging are his specialties.

Owen:

Where to start... Master dirt jumper - goofy gangly ginger haired mega grom of Aptos. Amazing human, better digger. #RideOrDie

Rob: The bearded bike builder. Todd rocks out to Sinatra while turning his wrench.  A jazzy dude with jazzy taste in music and a cat named Phoebe. Todd is always stylin' with his epic beard, and is not afraid to rock a mullet.

Santa Cruz Crew

Candice - Assistant to the Regional Manager

Candice likes people. You might see her riding around town with her husband and two doggies, who frequently act as greeters at Epicenter West, or on the Emma McCrary trail, learning to shred. Candice also enjoys camping, swimming, and hiking.

Grace - Assistant to the Regional Manager This spicy young British-born police academy attendee is currently working undercover as one of our sales associates. She stops shoplifters dead in their tracks with a cold glare - she doesn’t miss anything.

Michele:

This bubbly dynamo works behind the scenes at Epicenter to make sure you are up-to-date with all of our crazy parties, awesome sales and events, and community projects. It's hard to pin nomadic Michele down in the 831 as she's often off on one adventure or another, exploring the western US with her canine pal Seabee and R-Pod travel trailer, but she always returns to her Epicenter family saying "There's no place like home."

Zack:

We named our mannequin after him because he dresses himself like a pro. Zack is one of our mechanics at Epicenter West. If I was to guess what his spirit animal is, it would probably be a big sweet, downhill-loving teddy bear... on a bike... who wears a lot of bright colors.

Epic Alumni

Eli:
… Loves snow skiing almost as much as mountain biking, surfing and disc golfing. Eli learned bike mechanics through a county ROP class, and is now helping as an instructional assistant in the program. While in the class Eli started a non-profit program called Cycle Forward to provide loaner bikes to clients of the Homeless Services Center. He’s now studying mechanical engineering at Cabrillo. Fun Fact: he continues to practice pole vaulting and can currently clear the height of an adult male polar bear!

Sarah:

This seriously stunning lady has been slinging wrenches as a pro bike mechanic for 15 years (with the exception of a one year stint working for Trek Bicycles in Wisconsin.) She's way too cool for Wisconsin, so we're keeping her forever. Sarah loves riding single-track, wrenching at Epicenter, and hanging out with her adopted shop sisters, Kazia and Candice.

Harlan Have you ever seen The Big Lebowski? (of course you have). Well, Harlan is the feline version of The Dude. Don't let the black skull and crossbones collar fool you -Harlan abides. And sometimes models for Park Tool's twitter site. What a guy.

Lawrence:

If you never thought that punk rock, Blue Grass, cats and bicycles go together, you're dead wrong. These are the fundamental components that make up a Lawrence. Our Lawrence is also made of bike grease, burritos, and laughter.
